چکیده

In the course of a light and electron microscopy study of spermatogenesis in the European crayfish, Astacus fluviatilis, spermatocytes of abnormal appearance were observed in two instances in individuals that had passed the mating period. The electron microscope showed that the inner membrane of the nuclear envelope of these cells was erupting into a mass of microtubules, 15 to 18 mmicro in diameter and 0.5 micro or more in length, while the outer membrane transformed into cytoplasmic vesicles. Stages in the formation of these novel processes were followed. The plasma membrane of the affected cells was seen in some cases to erupt into similar although shorter microtubules. It is concluded that the phenomenon is part of a degenerative process in which the spermatocytes are being absorbed by sustentacular cells. It is suggested that the observations provide further evidence for a fundamental functional as well as a morphological similarity between the membranes bounding the nucleus and the plasma membrane.

The Novel Nuclear Envelope Protein KAKU4 Modulates Nuclear Morphology in Arabidopsis.

In animals, the nuclear lamina is a fibrillar meshwork on the inner surface of the nuclear envelope, composed of coiled-coil lamin proteins and lamin binding membrane proteins. Plants also have a meshwork on the inner surface of the nuclear envelope, but little is known about its composition other than the presence of members of the CROWDED NUCLEI (CRWN) protein family, possible plant lamin ana...

The inner nuclear membrane protein LAP1 forms a native complex with B-type lamins and partitions with spindle-associated mitotic vesicles.

We have examined the in situ organization and nearest neighbours of the 'lamina-associated polypeptide-1' (LAP1), a type II membrane protein and a major constituent of the mammalian nuclear envelope. We show here that, during interphase, LAP1 forms multimeric assemblies which are suspended in the inner nuclear membrane and are specifically associated with B-type lamins. The LAP1-lamin B complex...

Stepwise reassembly of the nuclear envelope at the end of mitosis

The nuclear envelope consists of three distinct membrane domains: the outer membrane with the bound ribosomes, the inner membrane with the bound lamina, and the pore membrane with the bound pore complexes. Using biochemical and morphological methods, we observed that the nuclear membranes of HeLa cells undergoing mitosis are disassembled in a domain-specific manner, i.e., integral membrane prot...

Synthesis, transport and incorporation into the nuclear envelope of A-type lamins and inner nuclear membrane proteins.

The mammalian NE (nuclear envelope), which separates the nucleus from the cytoplasm, is a complex structure composed of nuclear pore complexes, the outer and inner nuclear membranes, the perinuclear space and the nuclear lamina (A- and B-type lamins). The NE is completely disassembled and reassembled at each cell division. In the present paper, we review recent advances in the understanding of ...

Kar5p Is Required for Multiple Functions in Both Inner and Outer Nuclear Envelope Fusion in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

During mating in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, two haploid nuclei fuse via two sequential membrane fusion steps. SNAREs (i.e., soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors) and Prm3p mediate outer nuclear membrane fusion, but the inner membrane fusogen remains unknown. Kar5p is a highly conserved transmembrane protein that localizes adjacent to the spindl...
